The maintenance department consists of ten staff servicing 23 schools, 141 rental properties, 6 sewer systems and 4 water systems over a one hundred and fifty thousand square kilometer area.  The staff consists of 3 area maintenance supervisors, 2 plumbers, 1 carpenter, and 4 maintenance workers.  This work force is augmented by contracted services as funds allow.

In the 1999/2000 school year Alberta Infrastructure did assessments of our schools.  From these assessments we have developed an action plan, within the resources available, to address the areas that were identified.  With budget constraints this does not always occur as quickly as we would like.  Alberta Infrastructure has commenced a school re-assessment and as of August 2007 they have reviewed 16 of our schools.

We strive to address concerns as soon as possible given the following priorities:

• Issues that are vital to health and safety of students and staff
• Issues that relate to space requirements of due to enrolment increases where other alternatives are not available
• Issues that meet essential facility needs arising from building obsolescence or to accommodate educational programs
• Issues that provide for the comprehensive modernization needs of existing facilities or additional non-instructional and gymnasium facilities
• Issues that are identified as meeting other school or community-type needs
